Week 1: Idea Development
In week one, we have our first lecture section in lecture hall. We were
briefed by our lectures about our project guideline to better understand of
Major Project 1. This Major Project was included all specialization so we were
conduct by different lectures. During the tutorial and practical section, our
lectures Ms. Anis and Ms. Vityaa give us more dipper explanation on our
project and outlined our expectations for our proposals in the week ahead.
In this project we were required to form group that no more than 4 members. I
formed a group with Adrianna , Amelia and Amirah. After grouping, we having a
brainstorming section and each of us came up with one ideal following some
explanation on it purpose.
Adrianna's idea topic is about makeup, something like blusher. Her ideal is to
create a Eczema Friendly Blusher because most women will need blusher to
enhance their look and if this brand is natural ingredient it will help for
people with sensitive skin.
Amira's idea is design a all genders, sustainable and minimalist matcha
skincare brand because of sustainable ingredients and product packaging that
will encourage current generation in this new trend era.
Amelia's idea is to create a brand with something food. she come up with this
matcha chips ideals that unique innovation and health benefit and high
in fiber.
My idea is to create a blind box like POP Mart that fascinate young generation
that also will be fun to create a blind box with dry clay.

Week 2: Topic Development
We shared our ideals with Ms. Vityaa and explained some thought with her and
she advise us to choose the blind box concept which we can explore more
different things and more creative way to show our design skills in this
project.
After some discussion with group, we all agree to prosed with this idea and
started brainstorming for blind box figure. Since our figure we wanted
to use dry clay to make it we find some refences that will be able to create
it. At first we wanted to create some figure that cute and simple like
Maltese or cute animal figure. The second figure concept is to collaborate
with instant noodle brand like Samyang creating a different noodle flavors
blind boxes, this could adding values to the brand since blind box have been
a rising trend in Asia.
Figure 2.1 blind box figure refences
Figure 2.2 blind box figure refences
The third concept came from our desire to promote a Malaysian instant noodle
brand, which Mamee already produces, and at the same time Mamee reminds us
as a well-known snack brand and it hasnāt fully explored the booming blind
box collectible market. This concept will also inspire people around the
world to pay attention to Malaysia's artistic heritage. We began to research
on it background and brand vision as our topic research.

In this stage, we proceed to the research of blind box and Mamee brand. On
week 3 we have to present our first proposal so we have assigned specific
task for making the project more efficient. I am doing the research of
"Case Studies & Benchmark brand " and "Market Analysis: Economic and
Cultural Impact".

In this week, we presented our product launching (Mamee) proposal in class
and we have received some feedback from our lecture and classmates.
Unfortunately our idea of board game have received many comments like if
consumer keep repeating buy our blind box but can not collect all our pieces
of board game how we can solve that problem. So in this week we continue
thinking for solution for this part and also doing more research for project
objective to more solid project goal.
For research and survey on our target audience and gather more insightful
thought, we designed some survey question.

Week 5: Target Audience & Refine Brand with
Character
After multiple time of discussion and consulted with our lecture, we decided
to develop a character figure in our own brand, but under Mamee brand. Now
our new project goal on childhood snacks themes, specifically targeting Gen
X and Gen Z to remind of our older Malaysian childhood snacks.
For the board game concept, we decided to change it as an interactive
packaging playset. The concept is to place the figure with the playset as
some thing like a Polly Pocket. Amirah have sketch out the interactive
packaging, this packaging allows consumers to engagement and
reusable.
After receiving survey data, we gather it into data analysis and submit for
task 2.

We also focused on brainstorming for character name an develop a
personality for a identity and background. We were sent a poll of
character name and everyone decided to go with the name "Miko".

Week 6: Branding & Final Character design
After consultation, We received feedback advising from our lecturer
that she encouraged us to make our character to be more local look and
refine the name. This feedback take us to the other stage for refine the art
style character name and color palette base on Malaysia culture style. Since
Adrianna drew inspiration for the character from Mameeās birthplace,
Malacca. Miss Anis also suggested further exploring the local environment
and cultural elements to enhance the productās authenticity as a true
representation of Malaysia. We have updated the concept and idea on the
character.

After some discussion, we make some changes on the character name which
inspired by Melaka street names, peranakan kuih and snacks. We also find
some figure and nyonya heritage elements references in life.

After we choose the character figure, I work on Adobe illustration based on
Amirah's sketch. First I draw out the outline of the figure. Than I fill in
the color based on our brand color palette. After that, I design the
character face expression inspirited by earlier Miko proposal and reference
on blind box.
Below is my character design progression:

In this progression of poses design, I also design on the childhood snack.
During this period, we doing some changes in the art style and color
palette, so I refine the snack and character. We received some feedback from
our lecturer that we have to design our Special Edition character in this
semester, so I design inspired by some refences.

Experience
It was quite challenging, and stimulating at the same time while working my
time on the project.
We were all filled with excitement while developing a product inspired by
cultures of my own country, the many changes and team cooperation made us
all stressful while progressing. The project came out exceeding our
expectations, it was a valuable experience to learn about the art of product
development, branding and showing out our culture as a piece of art. The
whole process have taught me the importance of communication, leadership and
teamwork.
Observation
We started out with doing blind boxes as it was quite a trend these days.
Firstly, we came up on the idea of making a Mamee mascot inspired figure,
but then changing to a independent brand inspired by the Melaka's Nyonya
Peranakan Heritage. The changement mentioned the importance of refining
ideas and through many researches to create a product meaningful and
marketable.
